Chicago Visit

Ellen and I spent a few days in Chicago last week for a spring break vacation. We traveled there and back on the Amtrak train out of Red Wing. The Red Wing train station is a beautiful building and has been cared for over the years. The city was prepared for flooding from the Mississippi [...]

Home and Garden Show

Saturday was a great day for the Northfield Home and Garden Show. Temperatures were cool outside so people were not able to be out doing yard work, and the sun was shining so they were eager to be out and about. Many, many people stopped by the show at the Northfield Ice Arena.  I staffed [...]

College City Beverage

We recently helped out College City Beverage in Dundas with a new beer cooler installation. Our work involved cutting out the existing concrete floor and installing large bollards at the doorway entrance—which we painted safety yellow. We also installed a concrete protection curb around the perimeter of the cooler. The bollards are not like the [...]

Demoliton at Baker Cottage

We’ve made good progress on the demolition work at Baker cottage on the Laura Baker Services campus. This work involves a complete renovation of this residential unit to accommodate new housing needs. Everything on the interior of the building is being removed….walls, doors, ceilings, floors, windows, etc. We end up with a very solid shell [...]

Historical Society Legislative Visit

We are making good progress on the Northfield Historical Society project. Deliveries are always a challenge. Today we took a load of concrete blocks into the building….loaded by hand onto wheelbarrows, carted across to back of the buiding, unloaded by hand. Lots of handwork on this job. We did finish the elevator pit excavation and [...]

Historical Society

We have had some very cold weather to work through on the Northfield Historical Society remodeling project. The cold weather is very hard on some equipment, such as air compressors, and it can be tough for the workers as well. Fortunately, we have erected a shelter that covers much of the project which keeps out [...]

Green Building and Radon

Last Wednesday I spent the day in a class dealing with ‘green building’ concepts and radon mitigation. The class gives me education credits for renewing my state contractor’s license. Greg Karow, a former builidng official, taught the class that was held at the Northfield ballroom. We had a good group of contractors in attendance, both [...]

Home Remodeling

Last week we started a nice remodeling project at an area lake home. Our work involves combining two smaller bedrooms into one larger bedroom, removing a tub in a bathroom and installing a shower unit, replacing an entrance door, painting and other miscellanous items. This is a great time to plan any home imrovements that you [...]

Cupola work

Rebuilding the cupola at the Dodge Center courthouse in Mantorville is progressing well. We are installing all new columns and railings on the cupola. The new work looks very nice and crisp. We are installing copper flashings under the columns, which should protect the cupola from moisture for many, many years.

It will be on their auction at their Gala Event on Saturday, October 18th. You can contact them at 507-645-8866 about tickets to attend and bid on this and other donations. [...]
