In spite of the very wet, cold weather we have made good progress on our East side Northfield new home. Last Friday we had a crane on site to lift the roof trusses into place. This home is what traditionally is called a story and a half house. It has a second level, but the [...]
The weather has finally straightened out enough for the synthetic finish to be applied to the Passive house we have been working on. This thin synthetic finish is applied over 8″ of foam that has been added to the exterior walls. The owner worked hard to get the tracks in place on the sides and [...]
Our East side Northfield new home project was set back a bit when we discovered poor soils on the site. We contracted with McGhie & Betts Engineers to come to the site and inspect. They made recommendations for soil corrections and observed and tested as we implemented the plan. This involved trucking out unsuitable building [...]
We managed to do the work necessary to install the foundation footings for the new home we are constructing on the East side of Northfield. Yesterday was a good day to set forms and we managed to place all the concrete by 3:00PM—-just in time to cover it and let the snow settle. I snapped [...]
Our work on another unit at the Crossing condominium building is moving along very well. This owner selected maple doors and cabinets with a light stain. It looks very nice in the unit that overlooks the Cannon River. We are extending the cabinets to the 9′ ceilings which gives extra storage space in the kitchen. [...]
We are starting work on a new home in Northfield…..in our April blizzard! This home is on College Street where a house burned down a couple of years ago. It is a great lot, with nice slope to the south and east. Our first task is locating the sewer and water services, then we will [...]

While we were working there the client asked if we would install pine 1×4 paneling in the sunroom of the house. We removed the existing window, [...]

Yesterday we started carpentry work on a new outbuilding for a client. Late last fall we installed the foundation. Because there was no pressure to have the building completed the owner allowed us to work it into our schedule. We cleared the snow off the floor and the carpenters are busy on this bright sunny [...]

We finished up work on the rural garage we have been working on. This provides some really nice workshop space for the owners. It is low maintenance as we used pre-finished fiber-cment sheet siding, with batten strips. The fascia and soffits and doors are pre-finished metal . We fully insulated the garage so the owner can [...]
