Yesterday Laura Baker Services held a dedication ceremony on their campus. They officially named and dedicated the 2005 residential cottage we constructed for them….calling it Wright Cottage. They also conducated a ribbon cutting ceremony for Elwell Cottage which we remodeled for them last year. There was a nice group of people in attendance for the ceremony, including a Rice [...]

Chicago Visit

Ellen and I spent a few days in Chicago last week for a spring break vacation. We traveled there and back on the Amtrak train out of Red Wing. The Red Wing train station is a beautiful building and has been cared for over the years. The city was prepared for flooding from the Mississippi [...]

In Town Wildlife

Ellen and I live on the north side of Northfield in an area surrounded by trees. It is a quiet area and as such seems to attract a variety of wildlife. We get the ‘normal’ in town animals such as raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, etc. but also a more ‘exotic’ mix of animals. For the past [...]

Northfield Home and Garden Show

With the arrival of spring, it is also time for the Northfield Home and Garden show. This year has brought some changes to the show. It is no longer being held at a local school…instead it is being held at the Northfield Ice Arena. That should be a great venue for the show. All the [...]

Groundhog Day

Since it is groundhog day today, I thought I would share photos of my own ‘personal’ groundhog. This little family decided to take up residence under the workshop shed at my lake cottage. The mother was quite protective of her five little babies. The babies were very inquisitive about the comings and goings around the [...]

New Little Boy….Leo

My daughter Marja and her husband Sam had a baby late last week…..Leo Raymond. Ellen and I were able to be up at the hospital shortly after he was born to see him and give our support to the new first time parents. It is exciting to have a new little boy grandchild. This is [...]

Northfield Historical Society Accessibility Project

We have started work on a nice project for the Northfield Historical Society. It involves making the Scriver Building more accessible to people and includes the installation of an elevator. The Scriver Building is a wonderful old stone building standing proud on Bridge Square. We’ve done work on it off and on, including installing a [...]

Winterwalk

Ellen and I were at downtown Northfield last night for the annual Winterwalk. What a perfect evening for the event!  There were hundreds  and hundreds of people all out and about downtown. The streets were blocked off to cars so that the horse drawn wagon rides could take people from one end of downtown [...]

Water Rising

This morning I arrived at my shop/office early like I usually do, before the sun came up. Once it was light out I wandered to the back part of our site to see how the Cannon River was looking. As I saw the water slowly creeping up the land I could only think of the [...]

Beautiful Morning Sun

We start our days early at Northfield Construction Company. One of the benefits of doing that is we get to see a lot of sunrises. Today’s morning sun was spectacular!
