New Little Boy….Leo

My daughter Marja and her husband Sam had a baby late last week…..Leo Raymond. Ellen and I were able to be up at the hospital shortly after he was born to see him and give our support to the new first time parents. It is exciting to have a new little boy grandchild. This is [...]

Winterwalk

Ellen and I were at downtown Northfield last night for the annual Winterwalk. What a perfect evening for the event!  There were hundreds  and hundreds of people all out and about downtown. The streets were blocked off to cars so that the horse drawn wagon rides could take people from one end of downtown [...]

DJJD Hog Roast

The Defeat of Jesse James Days committee hosted a hog roast for area business people and supporters of DJJD last night. In spite of a hot August night the turn out a the event was excellent. I’m up early most days and yesterday I passed the hog roast location and saw the workers there under [...]

Willow River Days

Ellen and I spent the weekend at our cottage in the Pine/Carlton County area. On Saturday we went to Willow River for Willow River Days. In spite of some rather rainy periods we had a fun time at this small town Minnesota event. The main feature is of course the parade. There were lots [...]

Taste of Northfield

The Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) is hosting their annual ‘Taste of Northfield’ event again this year. They are adding a new twist—-two days! It starts tonight at 4:00PM and also is being held tomorrow night. This has always been a well attended, fun event. Plan to come to Bridge Square in downtown Northfield and [...]

Home Show

Saturday was indeed a great day for the Northfield Home show. The weather was perfect and people enjoyed getting out and visiting the show. Groups of people started out right at the 9:30 opening and kept up very steady until early afternoon. I staffed our booth all day, showing people photos of some of our [...]

It is a great time to wander around, look at new products, and visit [...]

Atlanta, part two

When we were in Atlanta last week I was really struck by the geometric lines and designs of the newer buildings downtown. Atlanta has a lot of construction from the 1960’s on. In fact I heard some complaints from some of the local folks that Atlanta destroyed some of their fine historic buildings in the [...]

Atlanta, GA

Ellen and I spent last week in Atlanta, Georgia. It was nice to get away to a different climate for a bit, although it was unseasonably cold there. We mainly had blue skies with full sun which helped warm things by noon most days. When we travel I always like to look at architecture. Atlanta [...]

Winter Frost

Yesterday was one of those beautiful winter days where the trees, wires, poles and grasses were covered with a soft white frost. This is the kind of frost that is pretty but isn’t damaging. Sometimes we get blasts from winter that coat everything with heavy clear ice which pulls wires, breaks poles and causes havoc. [...]
