Last weekend Ellen and I were up at our lake cottage getting things ready for fishing season and summer fun. It was rather cold with snow off and on most of the day Friday….not really the spring
weather we had earlier. We often like to participate in local events when we are at our cottage and this weekend was a fun one….donkey basketball. The event was held to raise funds for new playground equipment in Moose Lake. The event took place at the Willow River school gym. The first game was between Mercy Hospital employees and employees from a credit union….the credit union won. The next game was between the fire fighters of Moose Lake and fire fighters of Willow River.
If you have never seen donkey basketball it is quite a scene. Each side has four donkeys. The players have to be on the donkey to pass the ball or shoot to the basket. As you can imagine, many of the players have a hard time staying on the donkey! Scoring is low…the first game was won by the credit union on a 6-4 score. The donkeys have little hoof protectors to keep from damaging the gymnasium floor. Between games they let children in the audience ride the donkeys. There was a good crowd of folks at the event raising funds for the playground.
