Eagle Scout Court of Honor

100_3279 Wednesday evening I ventured out into our Minnesota winter weather to attend a very nice event….an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for two scouts. The event was held at the Carleton College Great Hall, a lovely setting for such an event. Scout Troop 337 was there in full force, with lots of friends and family members in attendance. Some young men from the troop that have been away at colleges were back in Northfield and attended the Court of Honor. Crosby King was one of the two scouts receiving his Eagle award.

100_3021 I got to know Crosby while helping him with his community service project. The Eagle badge requires that a scout plan and implement a community project that does not benefit the scout or the scout troop100_3023 directly—-it has to be something that helps the wider community. Crosby elected to build and erect 15 wood duck houses in the Rice County Wilderness Park area. He raised funds for the cedar lumber and figured out the cutting patterns. I helped Crosby by running the saw to cut the parts. We worked together in our shop preparing the parts. He then took all the parts, assembled the bird houses, and mounted all of them in the County Park. This was a great community service project that should last for many years.

100_3275 I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the scouts at this Court of100_3282 Honor. Crosby’s parents were with him pinning his Eagle badge on his uniform, and receiving their own parent Eagle pins. The refreshments after the Court of Honor included a cake noting the scout’s achievement.
