New Home on Northfield’s East Side

100_3037 We started excavation work on a new home on the east side of Northfield yesterday. We postponed our start for a day due to the rain, but Thursday was a bright, sunny day good for outside work. This is the site where we demolished a home that burned last summer.

The excavation work is moving ahead well. Without soil borings on a site, you don’t100_3040 really know what type of soils will be encountered. On this site the soils so far have been very good. We had one unexpected surprise in that we found an old cistern that was underneath the floor of the house that was on the site. The new foundation is a few feet deeper than the old house foundation, so the cistern essentially is removed by the excavation work, but it does point out how the unexpected can crop up from time to time.
