Yesterday we started a small roof repair project for a client. The home had a one-story area that had a flat roof, with a pitched asphalt roof at the perimeter. The flat roof had been leaking intermittently where the railing posts connected to the flat roof. Over the years there had been decay, to the point that the roof was no longer serviceable.
We looked at options with the homeowners and arrived at a plan to frame a new
pitched roof over the old flat roof, creating a new asphalt sloped roof over the entire room. This eliminates the door from the second story to the old flat roof, but it should create a positive, leak-free roof.
